The Wines of 2002

This was the third year for Cooking with Linux and Restaurant Chez Marcel. As with 2001, I chose a few generic regional vintages, but also picked a number of unique vintages and vintners. The observant among you will notice that I must have had a lot of 1989 Pessac-Léognan. I wound up serving it twice that year.

Without further ado, here is Chez Marcel's wine selection for 2002.

  • Jan 2002 - Chez Marcel started off the year with a 1997 Mendoza from Argentina.
  • Feb 2002 - February blues were all but forgotten thanks to a 1998 Picadilly Valley Chardonnay.
  • Mar 2002 - Next came tha Australian Margaret River Chardonnay. A wonderful wine; thoughtful and aromatic.
  • Apr 2002 - In April, I had my faithful waiter bring up the 1989 Pessac-Léognan. Watch for it again.
  • May 2002 - We were lucky to have a couple of cases of 1999 Cornas Champelrose in the cellar.
  • Jun 2002 - What can I say about this 1997 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from Tuscany other than Bravissimo!
  • Jul 2002 - Dare I say, François, that this 1999 Côte-Rôtie is transcendent? Sipping a fine wine like this, I am transported to new planes of existence.
  • Aug 2002 - Lazy, hazy . . . let's have another taste of that 1989 Pessac-Léognan.
  • Sep 2002 - François brought us a 1999 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. We had been, uhm, submitting it to quality control earlier that day.
  • Oct 2002 - I hate to say it, but I'm not the world's greatest Merlot fan and yet this month, I had Francois bring up a 1997 Napa Valley Merlot which was quite excellent.
  • Nov 2002 - Better make it a 1999 Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
  • Dec 2002 - Excellent, François! I see that you have already brought up a healthy supply of the 1998 Barossa Valley Shiraz. Our guests are thirsty.

And, to top it all off, Cooking with Linux won its second Readers' Choice Award.
